FISH dream meaning

Here again the subject of fish-dreams is a very large one, far too large for me to deal with very exhaustively. I must therefore, as in the case of the bird and dog dreams, be content with a few selections. To dream about gold and silver fish is distinctly fortunate, and points to legacies and presents, chiefly monetary. To dream about whales is indicative of impending law suits, debts, bankruptcy, and pecuniary difficulties. To dream about sharks portends death, illness, or an enemy. To dream about mackerel imports coming domestic bothers; about herring, pleasures in the shape of visits to friends or places of entertainment; about sprats, children’s ailments; about pike, quarrels; about flat fish (generally speaking), misfortunes in some form or another, but seldom deaths; about salmon, unexpected success; happiness, presents, and the forming of sound friendships; about minnows and sticklebacks, petty quarrels, and disappointments; about eels, ruptures in love affairs, nasty “turns” by enemies, failures in work.I have often dreamed about fish. I remember once having a very vivid dream about a shark.I fancied I was bathing in a fresh-water pool close to the house where I was staying, when, to my surprise and horror, I suddenly saw the fin of a shark bearing straight down on me. I shouted for help, and the next moment found myself falling down a well with the shark, an enormous white shark, in full pursuit of me. On arriving at the bottom, I was abruptly transferred to the drawing-room of a house I had not visited or thought of for at least twenty years, when the first thing I saw on the tea-table, its baleful eyes fixed on mine with a malicious grin, was the head of the shark.I awoke in fear and trembling — as indeed I might after such a startling exhibition — and, on coming down to breakfast, learned of the death of a very dear friend. On another occasion, a day or two before I heard of the death of an old schoolfellow of mine,I dreamed I was fishing in a deep pool overgrown with rushes, when the first thing I caught — or at least which caught me, for I was eventually eaten by it — was a leviathan shark. I can see it now — a huge, slimy, blue-backed thing with a glistening white belly, eyes twinkling with devilish glee at the prospect of so sure a meal, and an enormous, gaping mouth furnished with what seemed to me interminable rows of saw-edged teeth. Snap, in I went, and the next instant the most frightful, the most excruciating agonies shot through me as a thousand spike-like points crushed into my flesh. For some seconds after I awoke I still felt a hellish pain in my eyes, and ears, and all the most sensitive parts of my body.A lady once told me that the night before hearing of the unexpected promotion of her son, she dreamed she saw him standing in a pool of water literally surrounded by huge salmon that rubbed themselves affectionately against his legs in the manner of a dog.And another dream, that has been told me relative to the same fish, was to the effect that shortly before the dreamer received a high official appointment in the East Indies, he dreamed he was paddling in a brook, when he suddenly trod on a huge salmon, that leaped out of the water and went on rising and rising in the air, till it finally disappeared altogether. It is no uncommon thing for me to dream about eels, and whenever I do, something unpleasant is sure to follow. Either someone plays me a nasty trick, or I lose a train, or catch a cold, or meet with a rebuff; and this, I find, has been the experience of crowds of other people.
